All Christians are called to a life of faith in relationship with God and to a life of service
in relationship with others. Ministry in the Christian church is derived from the ministry of
Jesus Christ, who calls all persons to receive God’s gift of salvation and follow in the way of
love and service.
It is out of the faith and witness of the congregation and its leadership that people of all
ages respond to God’s call to ministry. Without creative use of the diverse gifts of the entire
body of Christ, the ministry of the church is less effective.
Worship is a time when the community of faith comes together expecting to experience
God’s grace in community together. Through worship, people can come to understand the
way of salvation, experience God’s justifying grace, and begin their spiritual journey through
faith in Jesus Christ. Through Christian worship, people of faith are provided opportunities to
develop their God-given talents and gifts in service and leadership roles to which they have
been called. The music ministry at First United Methodist Church provides such opportunities.
