I am Rev. Virginia Pevey and I serve as the Minister of Music at First UMC. I moved here from Longview, Texas which is where I was born and lived for most of my life. My educational background includes a Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Texas A&M University at Commerce, a Master of Education Degree from Sam Houston State University, and a Master of Arts in Christian Service Degree from Brite Divinity School.

After teaching secondary choral music in East Texas public schools for 29 years and serving in part-time music ministry at Winterfield United Methodist Church in Longview, I felt God was calling me to ordained ministry in the United Methodist Church. I retired from teaching in Dec. 2005 and began seminary at Brite Divinity School and full-time music ministry at First UMC-Gilmer, Tx. I began serving here October 1, 2009 and I love working in this marvelously strong ministry church. I am looking forward to being ordained as a permanent Deacon at the New Mexico Annual Conference in Glorietta, NM in June 2010. This is a beautiful area in which to live and I am excited and thankful that God has called me to serve here.
